My Design Philosophy
I've given a lot of thought as to how I do things. Here are some of the things you should know about the Small Hadron Collider philosophy.
Tailor Made Designs
I'll make the perfect site for you. That's why I insist on meeting you face-to-face before I'll start any work. For example, Broomhill Infant School needed a new website, but rather than just doing a generic school website, I asked some of the children at the school to draw some artwork for me that then helped shape the design. The end result was a website that fitted the school and that the children could feel part of.
The Environment
I use a single Apple iMac in my office. It's one of the most environmentally friendly computers you can buy: it's both energy efficient and made of environmentally friendly materials. I don't use cars to get anywhere, preferring to cycle everywhere instead – getting around town on a bike can be quicker than a car much of the time anyway. And, of course, saving energy saves money, and these savings are passed on to you.
Ethical
I wish it wasn't so, but in business doing the right thing and doing the profitable thing often don't go hand in hand. However, I've decided that doing the right thing is much more important than making money. I won't take advantage of your lack of technical knowledge and I'll make sure that you're happy with every aspect of your website before parting ways. After all, if you're happy you're more likely to tell people about me!
Face to Face
I think you should get to meet me before I start working on your website. After all, if we've not met, how am I supposed to design a website that's right for you?
Cutting Edge
I allocate one fifth of my office time to doing research on the latest developments in web-technology. That way I can build you the most cutting edge website possible.
Accessibility
Many websites can't be read by disabled users. I don't think that's acceptable. Websites should be accessible to anyone. I'll make sure that your site is.
Compatibility
I'll make sure that your website can be viewed on as many devices as possible. A good number of people still use old web-browsers that often don't display webpages properly. I'll make sure that your website can be viewed by anyone with an internet connection.
Charity
I like to think that love makes the world go round, not money (well, love and angular momentum). That's why I'll offer you a 40% discount if you're a charitable organisation: that way you'll get a top quality website without cutting into the budget.
Technobabble Free
It's hard to feel happy about something that you don't understand. That's why I won't try and wow you with complicated technobabble. Instead I'll explain everything I'm doing and why I'm doing it in an easy to understand way.
