My Design Portfolio
Broomhill Infant School, Sheffield
December 2009
Broomhill Infant School needed a new website. They hadn't been able to update their old one for well over two years because their previous designer hadn't told them how. And an out of date website is worse than no website at all.
I suggested that perhaps the children at the school might want to help come up with the design for the website. So a group of them drew lots of pictures for me to use. The final website is a mix of the children's drawings and my design work.
St John's Ranmoor, Sheffield
November 2009
St John's Ranmoor needed a website that would be easier to keep up to date. The old site was built in such a way that making even the smallest change to one page could have an impact on the whole site.
The new site uses a "content management system". This means that updating the site is as simple as logging in and editing the pages you want to change. All from your web-browser! It's now so much easier to keep the site up to date.
Peter Taylor - Baritone Soloist, Sheffield
September 2009
Pete's website was starting to look a little bit dated, it didn't match his business cards, and it wasn't appearing very high in Google search results.
Now Pete's site fits in perfectly with the rest of his publicity materials and it's right at the top of Google searches for "Baritone Sheffield" and in the top 15 for "Singing Sheffield" and "Vocal Training Sheffield".
Milsom School of Music, Sheffield
March 2009
The Milsom School of Music had a website that, on the face of it, seemed to work fine. However, with a quick look at the code it became immediately apparent that Google would have no way of finding their site. Furthermore the site couldn't be viewed by users with disabilities.
So, I did a new design for them which is not only appearing much higher up in Google search results (No.3 for "Music School Sheffield" in Google) but is also much better for disabled users of the web.
Hallam Choral Society, Sheffield
January 2009
Hallam Choral Society, a successful choral group based in Sheffield, had a very informative website, but it was beginning to look a little old-fashioned. I did a quick redesign for them and now the site is looking much more modern.
Having a modern looking site can make a big difference to how much of the site people actually read. Your front page might get hundreds of hits a day, but if people can't get past the way the site looks then they won't go any further and they might miss vital information – like the date of the next concert.
Tree Amigos, Based in Sheffield
December 2008
The Tree Amigos had been abandoned by their previous web-designer and the designs he'd come up with didn't fit in with the existing publicity material. But Christmas was coming up and they wanted to be able to sell their Christmas trees online.
The site was put together on a tight schedule, but the end result was a site that fitted in with their existing publicity materials. And their first year as an internet company was very successful.
